Period. Tampon. Taboo.

Periods and tampons are still a taboo subject. Women among themselves know the unpleasant situations: when the neighbor has to be asked in a whisper for a tampon, the "Erdbeerwoche”Suddenly answers in the middle of a conversation, or a pack of tampons eats a hole in your wallet. The negative facts of the tampon industry are well known: tampon manufacturers do NOT have to label the ingredients on the packaging, tampons are taxed with 19% VAT and many women cannot afford the right supplies even in Germany.

Anni and Sinja speak about these problems through their company "The Female Company" on. Inspired by their trip to India, they make organic tampons, sanitary napkins and panty liners. These have many advantages:

  • Sustainable packaging: Paper (cellulose) instead of plastic packaging
  • Bio: The tampon's absorbent core is made of organic cotton, without chemicals and pesticides. They are also 98,4% compostable.
  • Fair: They are made in Spain and there are fair social conditions.
  • Hypoallergenic: prevents skin irritation and allergies.

In India, only 12% of women have access to hygiene products. Leftover fabric remnants are used to make cloth bandages that are made by women in Mumbai who have been freed from prostitution and human trafficking and now have a fairly paid job. A great company that pays attention to the fundamental rights of women, as well as the environment and sustainability.
