Maggots, flies, stench - in summer the organic waste bin is not a feast for the eyes and often an attack on the nose. With a few simple means, these unpleasant side effects of organic waste can be kept in check, even in the hot season. So there is no reason to neglect waste separation!
- Location and storage
The waste is best disposed of in the kitchen if possible cool and dry stored. Good with one lid closed, as few fruit flies as possible end up in the organic waste, where they would otherwise multiply happily. The organic waste bin is best placed in a cool, shady location.
- dry layers
Tie up in the organic waste bin dry wood chips or good dried grass and hay between the waste the moisture. This slows down the fermentation process and reduces bad smells.
- vinegar water
The emptied organic waste bin is best cleaned regularly with a high pressure cleaner or garden hose and occasionally with it vinegar water wiped out (please do not use chemical cleaning agents). Before rubbish comes in again, let it dry well!
