On today's World Sight Day we would like to draw your attention to the eye disease trachoma. Around 2,5 million people worldwide are affected by bacterial eye infections, and trachoma is also widespread in Ethiopia. In the course of the disease, the eyelashes curve inwards, which leads to great pain - and in the worst case to blindness.
Eyelid surgery is the last resort to avoid blindness. In the early stages, trachoma can easily be treated with antibiotics.
The most sustainable way of fighting the disease, however, is through access to clean drinking water and hygiene measures such as building latrines.
