Biblis A has been in operation since 1975. According to the Atomic Energy Act, it should have been shut down in December 2008. However, the reactor had long downtimes during which it did not produce electricity. It stood still from autumn 2006 to spring 2008 due to incorrectly installed dowels. The remaining term is thereby extended until 2009.
In September 2006, RWE applied to transfer electricity volumes from the Mรผlheim-Kรคrlich nuclear power plant, which was shut down in 1988, to Biblis A โ a clear violation of the Atomic Energy Act. It clearly rules out a runtime extension for Biblis A. The Federal Environment Ministry rejected the application.
