Just wait and see. This is generally not a recipe for success in nature conservation - but Paraguay seems to be the exception here. Mate tea, the national drink, so to speak, can help to save the last remaining parts of the rainforest. What does it take? A little ingenuity, some help from the WWF and a group of strong women.

In the "Virgen del Rosario" (Virgin of the Rosary) women's association in Tavapy, 30 women have come together to be able to farm more efficiently. Together they grow mate trees, harvest the leaves and make mate tea, which is sold together with products from the vegetable and orchard at local markets. The women also develop recipes with mate and sell homemade bread and pastries.
