Lights off: less lighting is more

The Earth Night takes place every year and is intended to draw our attention to the problem of light pollution. From garden lighting to large cities that “never sleep”, artificial light is a disruptive factor at night. Because it brings animals and plants out of their natural rhythm. Butterflies search for food instead of sleeping, birds lose their orientation because they cannot see any stars and many insects die directly on the glowing lamps.

If you reduce the lighting, you contribute to a longer life for insects and birds and create more restful nights for humans and animals. In addition, this of course also saves energy and costs.

Anyone can do that:

  • Light duration and intensity Reduce to the necessary extent outdoors.
  • motion detector or timers prevent unnecessary lighting
  • Avoid spherical lamps that give off light in all directions. Lamps with one are better Cone of light, directed downwards at a hunt.
  • Low light poles or low mounting of the luminaire prevent glare and excessive light scattering.
  • Where light is needed, there are energy-saving Led Lamps with the Color "warm white" (below 3000 Kelvin) to recommend. Their light does not contain any UV components and is therefore more insect-friendly.
