Less sand on the Black Sea due to Danube obstructions

As part of the EU-funded DanubeSediment project, scientists have calculated that currently only 15 to 20 million tons of suspended matter arrive from the Danube in the Black Sea on an annual average. "If you look at the historical freight in front of the power plant construction of around 40 to 60 million tons annually, this is a significant decrease of about 60 percent," is in Article from the Wiener Zeitung to read. This results in a loss of up to 24 meters per year on some sandy beaches on the Black Sea.
