By now, you are probably aware of the escalating violence in Myanmar following a military coup in February. At least 500 people were killed. But military rule and control are not new to the region. Kyaw has been part of the democracy movement in Myanmar (Burma) since the pro-democracy uprising in 1988 and has dedicated his life to the country's struggle for freedom. After military action, Kyaw had to flee Myanmar decades ago before building a life here in Australia. He has not heard from his father, who still lives there, since the last military coup. This is Kyaw's story.
