It is enough! New protest platform against inflation is formed | attack Austria

It is enough! Standing up against inflation together. Under this name, a new protest platform for solidarity responses to the current price increases is being formed in Austria.

“The price increases are an existential threat for many people. But our basic needs must be certain: heating or showering must not be a luxury, a warm apartment, a full refrigerator, affordable care and a secure income are our right," says Benjamin Herr.

Measures taken so far are not enough

“The government's previous anti-inflation measures are neither socially nor ecologically accurate. Instead of comprehensively securing basic needs, the government is relying on one-off payments and an electricity price brake that we can pay ourselves with our own taxes," criticizes Hanna Braun.

It is enough! will call for protests on the streets in the coming weeks to build up political pressure from below. The central demands include the protection of basic needs, the taxation of wealth and excessive corporate profits as well as higher wages, pensions and social benefits. In addition, social and ecological issues must not be played off against each other, the platform demands. The redistribution of social wealth must go hand in hand with a reduction in resource consumption and a rapid exit from oil, coal and gas.

In contrast to political forces that rely on scapegoating and isolation, the platform demands a dignified life for all people.

Launch on October 1 / Broad support

The protests will begin with a rally on Saturday, October 1, at 15 p.m. at Ballhausplatz in Vienna, followed by a demonstration at Wien Energie's service center on Spittelauer Lände. Further demonstrations and mobilizations are planned. At the same time, a petition is launched with the platform's seven demands.

It is enough! is supported by numerous organizations and social and environmental movements; including Attac, Volkshilfe, the Austrian Union of Students, the Socialist Youth, System Change not Climate Change, Mosaik, IG24 - interest group of 24-hour supervisors, youth council, uprising of single parents, En Commun, Junge Linke, Comintern, More for Care! Economy for Life, Platform Radical Left, Platform 20.000 Women, Rise up 4 Rojava. In addition, LINKS and the KPÖ support the platform.
