Infarm: herb cultivation in the supermarket

Buying food sustainably and ecologically is not as easy as it is often presented. One or the other has certainly been annoyed when the products in the supermarket cannot be traced, where the product really comes from and how many kilometers it has traveled to the shelf. "Coconut milk made in Germany?" ... hardly. But how about growing vegetables directly in the supermarket?

The Berlin startup has this line of thought:Infarm“Had a few years ago. They sell everything: herbs, salads and other vegetables that grow fresh and sustainably in the supermarket.

With the help of a “cloud-based farming” platform, the system learns to adapt and improve the conditions on the plants independently. The light, air and nutrients are controlled to create the optimal conditions for the plants. Even vertical agriculture reuses and saves water. As groceries grow in the supermarket, food transportation routes are reduced and energy is saved in production. In addition, less fresh food is wasted because the plants keep their roots.

Compared to conventional agriculture, an in-store farm business replaces 250 square meters of arable land and uses 95% less water. They also emphasize that they use 75% less fertilizer and the plants grow 100% without pesticides.

Agriculture faces immense challenges, such as dealing with rising temperatures. There have been long, hot summers in recent years that have caused the soil to dry out. New and creative ideas are needed to relieve the burden of agriculture. "Infarm" would be a regional, sustainable and affordable alternative. There are now 678 “Infarms” worldwide - there is also an increasing number of shops in Germany. On your website you can just look up where it is "Infarm" supermarket nearby
