(Beirut, October 1, 2020) - Officials from the Egyptian Police and the National Security Agency arbitrarily arrest and detain lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in inhumane conditions, systematically subjecting them to abuse, including torture, and frequently inciting them Fellow inmates to abuse them, Human Rights Watch said today. Security guards routinely pick people off the streets based on their gender expression alone, lock them in via social networks and dating apps, and illegally search their phones. Prosecutors use this content to justify prolonged incarceration by stamping police reports and unjustified prosecutions against them.
