“We survive by irrigation because water availability is not reliable. This area is dry and does not have enough water, ”says Techlea, a farmer in Zimbabwe.
In Nyanyadzi, Zimbabwe, farmers are challenged by climate change with recurrent droughts and flash floods that threaten crops and crops. With the United Nations Development Program and the Southern Alliance for Indigenous Resources. Oxfam built gabions to act as mud traps and rehabilitated the irrigation system with the Nyanyadzi farmers.
The Nyanyadzi River feeds a gravity-powered irrigation system regulated by gates to control the flow of water. More than 400 hectares of fields are irrigated and reach over 720 farmers.
