100 percent company-free: under this motto, activists of the mobility turning movement are planning the Congress for transformative mobility - KonTra IAA in Munich. The two-day meeting on September 9th and 10th is a counter-event to the International Motor Show (IAA), which is to be held in Munich at the same time. KonTra IAA also deliberately differentiates itself from the planned mobility congress of the city of Munich, which, according to the concept, is to take place “closely linked to the IAA and the Association of the German Automobile Industry”.
“The current transport policy is auto-centered, harmful to the climate and socially unjust. For a truly climate-friendly change in mobility, car traffic must be drastically reduced and public transport expanded quickly and consistently. That only goes against the power of the auto industry. That is why our mobility congress is 100 percent company-free, ”says Yvonne Hagenbach from the sponsors of the congress.
Achim Heier, also active in the sponsoring group, adds: “With the KonTra IAA, we want to advance the content-related debate about the goals, content and implementation options for the necessary mobility transition. We will offer a wide range of events from critical civil society, be it from environmental associations, trade unions, scientists or initiatives from the mobility transition and climate justice movement. "
The congress is based on three pillars:
- Concepts for climate and socially just mobility as well as urban and transport planning
- Conversion of the auto industry from a national and international perspective
- Status and perspective of the movement for a mobility transition from below
A suitable venue in Munich is still being negotiated. The KonTra IAA is planned as a face-to-face event, but depending on the development of the corona pandemic, it can be held entirely or partially online. The congress sees itself as part of the counter-activities to the IAA carried out by various alliances, which will also include a demonstration and various actions.
The sponsors of the KonTra IAA include the globalization-critical network Attac Germany, Attac Munich and Attac Rosenheim, the “live car-free!” Initiative, BUND Nature Conservation in Bavaria, Changing Cities, the Institute for Social-Ecological Economic Research (ISW), and Kurt Eisner - Association for political education in Bavaria, the Friends of Nature in Germany and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
