(Jerusalem, July 27, 2021) - Israeli armed forces and Palestinian armed groups carried out attacks in violation of martial law and allegedly war crimes during the fighting in Gaza and Israel in May 2021, Human Rights Watch said today. The Israeli military and Palestinian authorities have had a long track record of failing to investigate war laws committed in or from Gaza.
Human Rights Watch investigated three Israeli attacks that killed 62 Palestinian civilians without any apparent military targets nearby. Palestinian armed groups also carried out illegal attacks, firing more than 4.360 unguided rockets and mortars at Israeli population centers, in violation of the prohibition on willful or indiscriminate attacks on civilians. Human Rights Watch will separately publish results on rocket attacks by armed Palestinian groups.
