The newly published EU biodiversity strategy contains a whole series of measures for the 27 member states. They include the expansion of protected areas, the renaturation of rivers, bogs and forests, as well as goals for environmentally compatible agriculture. Under the German EU Council Presidency, the member states will position themselves until October. This biodiversity strategy should also signal the start of global negotiations for a new agreement to be adopted at the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
In the NABU online talk, Stefan Leiner from the EU Commission presents the EU biodiversity strategy for the first time in German. Dr. Christiane Paulus (BMU) and Steffi Lemke (MdB) comment from a national perspective. In addition, the speakers answer written questions from around 170 live participants. The talk will be moderated by Konstantin Kreiser (NABU).
Conclusion: A good strategy with ambitious goals that must now be implemented at all levels - we stay tuned!
