Participation project for research into orchards

The Austrian Federal Forests (ÖBf) are starting a multi-year citizen science project in cooperation with the Wienerwald Management Biosphere Reserve.

"We cordially invite all nature enthusiasts to join us to explore the species-rich fauna on orchards", ÖBf project manager Gernot Waiss asks to participate. "The lay researchers will be on their 'own' orchard at least three days a year at different times of the year and will be on the lookout for typical species such as sailing moth, little owl or hoopoe."

The aim of the project is to document the variety of fauna typical for orchards and to draw conclusions about the state of the ecosystem. If necessary, habitat-improving measures for orchards should be developed on the basis of the database obtained.
