German Zero: A climate plan for Germany

Citizens are making the climate change themselves.

Berlin. Germany still does not have a climate protection law (unfortunately neither Austria nor Switzerland). Now that politicians fail to deliver, the citizens are now doing it themselves: That Climate protection legislative package. Lawyers, scientists and many others have come together to form the German Zero initiative, which is writing a package of climate protection legislation for the next Bundestag.

To do this has German Zero a plan: the 1,5 degree plan.

The content:

  • Climate neutrality as an additional basic right ins Basic Law
  • Also the 1,5 degree goal of the Paris Climate Agreement is written into the constitution as a national goal
  • an effective price on CO2 emissions: anyone polluting the atmosphere with greenhouse gases should pay at least 70 euros / ton. Climate protection must become cheaper than climate destruction. This is intended to make Germany the global engine for a climate-neutral economic upswing. German Zero wants to adapt existing laws accordingly.
  • Cities and municipalities should ask their citizens: German Zero calls for climate decisions in municipalities as in 2019 Darmstadt

Aim of the climate protection legislative package:

Germany will become climate neutral by 2035.

It reduces its greenhouse gas emissions to zero.

To do this, the new Bundestag (election on September 26.9.2021, 2022) must pass the package in XNUMX. The politicians should then show their colors: yes or no.

Last chance

"We have this only, last chance," says initiator Heinrich Strossenreuther Germany Radio. “If we don't make that decision in 2022, 2026 will be too late. Then we have a galloping climate system that we can no longer get a grip on. And that is the message: If we want to care for our children, for our grandchildren, then we have three last years to do it. "
