At the Fire Drill Fridays Movie Nights we come together (virtually) to see a film on the topics of climate change and activism. Jane Fonda and the Fire Drill Fridays community recently watched When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts.
Watch Jane's Q&A with Director Spike Lee!
When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts is based on news videos and stills of Katrina and her episodes, punctuated by interviews. Interviewees include politicians, journalists, historians, engineers, and many residents from various parts of New Orleans and the surrounding area who share firsthand experiences with the dam's failure and its aftermath.
Spike Lee said of the documentary, “New Orleans is fighting for its life. These are not people who disappear quietly - they are used to hardship and mortification and will fight for New Orleans. This film will demonstrate the struggle for New Orleans by focusing on the profound loss and indomitable spirit of the New Orleans people. "
When the Levees Broke won three Emmys and received a Peabody Award.
