The numbers are frightening: One in three women worldwide experiences violence – often by their partner or in their family environment. 

Girls are particularly at risk: the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 20 percent of all girls worldwide are victims of sexualized violence or other forms of abuse . More than 15 million Girls are forced into marriage every year. At least 200 million girls and women were mutilated of their genitals, most of them under the age of five.

In the joint position paper, Kindernothilfe and its partners from Latin America, Asia and Africa therefore demand that violence against girls and women be recognized as a fundamental violation of their rights and that their protection be given priority.
