Eckardt Heukamp lives in Lützerath. The trailing edge of the Garzweiler open-cast lignite mine is only around 200 meters from his farm. The coal company wants to expropriate him in order to dredge the village. Eckardt Heukamp defends himself legally against it. If it were up to RWE, his yard could be cleared and demolished from the beginning of November.

Because the coal company wants to expand the Garzweiler opencast mine and burn coal until 2038 - this would mean that Germany would miss its climate targets. For this purpose, Lützerath and five other places are to be destroyed. But a study by the German Institute for Economic Research shows that the 1,5 ° C limit runs in front of Lützerath. No village may be dredged for lignite any more so that Germany can meet the Paris climate targets.

The expropriation planned by RWE legally refers to an ancient mining law and that it would be in the public interest to dredge the coal under Lützerath. Absurd! No energy source in Germany is more harmful to the climate than lignite! Climate protection is in the public interest!

Around 1.500 people are said to lose their homes in the open pit. In the Rhineland, more than 45.000 people have already been resettled for open-cast lignite mines and over 100 places including centuries-old churches and cultural monuments have been destroyed.

If we take climate protection seriously, we have to stop the expansion of the opencast mine. The burning of coal in Germany must end by 2030 at the latest.
