Do you know your carbon footprint? Which online calculator works?

More and more people is one sustainable consumption and lifestyle important. After all, we can all make a contribution to environmental and climate protection through our purchase decision.

Various people want to help us CO2 calculator. The online tools use the individual information provided by the user to calculate how large the ecological footprint of products, means of transport and forms of living is.

But they all have a certain catch: no matter how precisely the question is asked, they do not offer much more than a rough assessment. Nevertheless, I consider them a good opportunity to develop a feeling for sustainable consumption and to deal with it. But always keep in mind that, depending on the provider, you disclose certain data and do not forget to critically question what interests the operator might have.

Do you know your carbon footprint?

The Climate control CO2 calculator calculates the footprint of food and meals. You can drag and drop the ingredients onto a plate and immediately see the CO2 emissions in kg. Entertaining and interesting. BUT: The calculations are based on average figures from Germany. There can be considerable regional differences. It should also be noted that the computer is operated by a margarine manufacturer - at least that is reflected in the recipes.

The CO2 calculator from the Environmental Education Forum is supported by the public sector and the BOKU Vienna as well as private sponsors. The questions cover the areas of housing, consumption and mobility. They will be answered in around ten minutes and you will receive an evaluation with suggestions for improvement.

WWF Austria links to the Footprint calculator of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Protection and the Environment. Here, too, you have to answer a few questions and get an assessment of your consumption and tips for reduction.
