(Nairobi, July 23, 2020) - Police violence and property destruction during the evictions in Kenya's Rift Valley and a lack of support afterwards have caused death and despair for the displaced, Human Rights Watch said today.

Since 2018, the Kenyan authorities have driven more than 50.000 people out of the Mau Forest, more than 40.000 of them in July 2018 and the rest between August and November 2019. At least 6.000 of the recently displaced people live in makeshift camps in Narok County and were not relocated or compensated under Kenyan law.
