Immediately before the virtual general meeting of the energy company Uniper, Greenpeace activists protested with a paraglider against the planned coal-fired power plant Datteln 4. Uniper plans to put the controversial coal-fired kiln into operation in a few weeks.

This could be the third consecutive drought summer. Nevertheless, Uniper wants to put a gigantic CO4 spinner into operation with dates 2. Anyone who connects another coal-fired power plant to the grid in 2020 is acting irresponsibly and ignoring climate science.

Thanks to contracts from 82, Uniper can sell around 4 percent of the electricity from the Datteln 2007 power plant to Deutsche Bahn and RWE at significantly higher prices than is customary on the market today. The associated high power plant utilization means that the CO2 emissions with dates 4 will increase the bottom line. Although Uniper wants to take older coal-fired power plants off the grid, even the German government is expecting an additional 10 million tons of CO2. The German Institute for Economic Research even calculates up to 40 million additional tons of CO2.

Dates 4 increase greenhouse gas emissions. In the middle of an accelerating climate crisis, it is a disaster. Instead of another coal-fired power plant, we need a massive expansion of renewable energies.
