Cycling: safe on the road in autumn and winter

The bicycle is one of the most environmentally friendly modes of transport. Even in autumn and winter, more and more people like to use their bikes. Especially in sunny, late summer weather or on warm, dry winter days, cycling is not only leisure fun, but also a practical means of transport to work, school or university.

In order to get safely through the dark season by bike, the ARBÖ recommends the following measures:

  • Before every trip Lamps and reflectors Remove dirt and check its functionality.
  • Light clothes with reflectors wear, e.g. put on a safety vest.
  • Tubes check regularly. Wider tires with a pronounced profile are best for driving on wet and slippery surfaces.
  • Brakes check. Replace worn brake pads. The braking distance is always longer in wet conditions, so it is essential to adjust your speed.
