Corona, Travel & Climate: The Covid-19 pandemic will also significantly change holiday travel behavior. More holiday trips in Germany, significantly fewer trips outside of Europe. That is the result of the VCÖ-Barometers 2020, in which 125 experts from research, science, administration, interest groups and civil society were asked about the possible future of domestic travel behavior.
For example, the general assessment of climate-friendly travel in 2030 is cautiously optimistic. Although only 5 percent expect a much better climate friendliness of the Austrian population's travel in 2030 compared to the current situation, 57 percent of the experts expect a slight improvement. At 5 percent of those surveyed, the same number of respondents as those who expect a significant improvement estimate that the climate compatibility in the travel sector will deteriorate significantly. Overall, 62 percent assume an improvement, 14 percent a deterioration and 24 percent assume that the climate compatibility of travel will remain roughly the same.
