Co-op is committed to 100% recyclable private label packaging

CONTRIBUTION IN ORIGINAL LANGUAGE

The cooperative recently announced that it would only use 100% recyclable packaging. The company has now banned black plastic packaging for all of its products and will phase out all non-recyclable plastics by summer 2020 to ensure that they are reusable or easily recyclable.

All of the packaging used can be easily recycled, be it by roadside pickup or via a closed circuit in the house, The Co-op said. Plastic films that the municipalities are currently not collecting for recycling will be easy to recycle through the company's national collection program for the material. After a test in the spring shop, the program will be extended to the retail store nationwide by summer.

The cooperative's Ethical Consumerism Report has tracked ethical spending over the past two decades. According to the latest report, average spending on ethical purchases per UK household rose from GBP 202 a year in 1999 to GBP 1.278 a year in 2018.
