Climate: Aviation is not over

Because of the Corona travel restrictions, more than two out of three aircraft in Germany are currently on the ground. In the first three quarters, German airports counted 71 percent fewer passengers than in the same months of the previous year. 60.000 of the 255.000 jobs at the airports are at risk, warns the Federation of the German Air Transport Company BDL.

Air traffic

The state has already bought German Lufthansa with nine billion euros in order to save the airline from bankruptcy. Now she needs support from taxpayers again. Instead of investing all of our money in future-proof, sustainable means of transport such as rail and other public transport, Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) save the airports with further billions from the tax coffers.  Even before the corona pandemic, two out of three German airports generated profits losses. This is paid by the operators, usually cities, districts and the respective federal states, i.e. all of us. Only the eight largest of the 24 airports made a profit in 2017.

“Ten of the 14 regional airports in Germany are permanently dependent on state subsidies and have no transport function for the regional economy. These zombie airports must not be revived through subsidies in order to further exacerbate the climate crisis, "complains not only the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (FEDERATION).

Avoid, reduce and offset greenhouse gas emissions

If politicians don't take climate protection seriously, we have to do more ourselves and stay on the ground. To do this, we can reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, for example, fly as little as possible, take the train or bike instead of the car, turn down the heating a little, buy as little processed organic food from our region as possible and much more. We can "offset" whatever greenhouse gas emissions we have.

I have exactly how this works and what you should pay attention to here written down for you.
