(Washington, DC, September 11, 2020) - Bolivia's transitional government is abusing the judicial system to prosecute employees and supporters of former President Evo Morales, who is on charges of terrorism that appears politically motivated, Human Rights Watch said in a statement Report released today.

The 47-page report "Justice as a Weapon: Political Persecution in Bolivia" documents cases of unfounded or disproportionate charges, breaches of due process, violations of freedom of expression, and excessive and arbitrary use of pre-trial detention in cases prosecuted by the government . Human Rights Watch also found examples of abuse of the justice system against opponents of Morales during the Morales administration.
