Blue macaw parrot

At first, this text should only be a school assignment, but after thinking about what to write about, a recently posted post on Instagram occurred to me. The content of the post was about the blue macaw parrot. A short text, but the message that was conveyed was not without meaning.

The last endangered blue macaw parrot has died. For many, it may just be another species that has become extinct. However, I not only associate this bird with the sadness of having another animal species less, but also the memory of my childhood that I shared with this bird. This little bird was honored to play a main character in a 2011 animation film. “Rio” was the name of the film. Many of the new generation will no longer remember this film or may not have watched the film at all, but those who can still remember something will understand how I feel. So a little thought for a school assignment turned into a serious thought about the animal world.

The blue macaw parrot won't be the last species to become extinct. The many other animal species are in a similar situation to the blue macaw parrot 10 years ago. It is only a matter of time before more well-known animal species die and the world is shocked again. However, it will only make itself felt when it is too late, as our little bird did. The sad thing is that even in modern times we have only discovered a fraction of the animal world. And let alone how many more were wiped out by our hand. The animal world of the oceans alone is largely unexplored and at the same time we are causing enormous damage. Because apart from plastic, the ocean is contaminated by other garbage, oils, toxic chemicals or even radioactive substances. We humans have a strong influence on our animal world, because not only indirectly through deforestation of habitats, pollution of the oceans, but also direct influences, such as hunting for “trophies” and luxury animal goods, make a very large contribution to this.

In the whole thing I am not only thinking of my generation, because they will still have vague memories of some things, but also of the next generation: What will this generation - the generation after my children - remember? Because some animals will only find these in old, dusty school books and they will no longer exist in the new ones. Just like our blue macaw parrot slowly fluttering away from our memory.
