Barbara Oberherr lives in the village of Keyenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia. Their ancestors already come from here. In addition to four other inhabited places (Kuckum, Unterwestrich, Oberwestrich, Berverath), Keyenberg is to be destroyed for the Garzweiler opencast mine. This is what the RWE Group and NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet want. Those who do not go voluntarily will be expropriated.

Barbara Oberherr resists the resettlement. Together with other victims, she is suing with the initiative “Human rights before mining rights” against the expropriation for the climate killer lignite, which is justified with the “common good”. She is involved in “All Villages Remain” and locally supports the climate justice movement.

A study commissioned by Greenpeace shows that RWE would not need coal even if the company wanted to mine lignite by 2038. But RWE doesn't want to forego profit. In order for Germany to comply with the Paris Climate Protection Agreement, we would have to get out of lignite, the most harmful energy source, much earlier.

Destroying your home and burning the climate? Let's stop the destruction!
