On Thursday, Greenpeace activists went on a foray across the Paradeplatz in Zurich to the Federal Department of Finance in Bern. Also included: an oversized statue of Helvetia, the “mother of the nation”. Helvetia's eyes were covered with banknotes and the dollar sign was emblazoned on her shield instead of the Swiss cross. On the banners of the activists: inside it said “Stop Greenwashing Finance”.
The reason for the foray is the recently published results of the climate mystery shopping by Greenpeace Switzerland, which revealed that although banks are committed to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, they hardly offer any investment products that actually support these goals.
