Asymptomatic Covid 19 patient infected - nobody

CONTRIBUTION IN ORIGINAL LANGUAGE

Whether asymptomatic Covid-19 virus carriers are contagious or not is a much discussed topic. A Chinese case study * reveals interesting new insights.

The asymptomatic patient and the 455 people with whom the patient came into contact (median contact was 4-5 days) became the subject of this Chinese case study. These contacts included 35 patients, 196 family members and 224 hospital staff. In addition to the hospital staff, both patients and family members were medically isolated.

The study concluded: "In summary, all 455 contacts were excluded from SARS-CoV-2 infection and we conclude that the infectivity of some asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 carriers may be weak." CT images showed no signs of COVID-19 infection and no severe coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections with acute respiratory syndrome were detected in the 455 contacts by nucleic acid testing.
