Asda will try zero waste options

CONTRIBUTION IN ORIGINAL LANGUAGE

Starting in May, Asda will run a 12-month trial at a store in Middleton, Leeds, to try different methods of reducing, removing, and reusing plastic packaging.

New refill solutions and recycling options enable customers to fill their own containers at refill points for essentials such as coffee, rice, pasta, tea and cereals.

Asda also announced the removal of plastic packaging from mushrooms and cucumbers and the sale of "naked" flowers without plastic packaging. New recycling facilities are also planned, including a return machine for plastic bottles and cans, ironing recycling and a locker for unwanted small plastic toys.

All attempts will take at least three months and from then on Asda will decide whether to introduce, try again, or stop.
