Protect the climate instead of destroying villages for lignite!

Laschet's Ministry of Lignite? Greenpeace activists are now protesting at the State Chancellery in Düsseldorf against the clientele policy of NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet in favor of the coal giant RWE. Protect the climate instead of destroying villages for lignite 🌍💚

It is completely absurd: If it were up to RWE and Armin Laschet, over 1.500 people would lose their home for the planned Garzweiler II opencast mine - many against their will. The towns of Keyenberg, Kuckum, Ober- and Unterwestrich and Berverath are threatened. Since the Hambach Forest at the latest, it has been clear that the lignite industry can no longer advance its dirty business in rural areas unnoticed, but rather calls for national protests. What is happening in the Rhineland's lignite mining district is decisive for the fight against the climate crisis: The RWE opencast mines and power plants are the largest source of CO2 in Europe. RWE intends to continue mining lignite for almost 20 years - an insane climate policy: RWE's planned lignite quantities of around 900 million tonnes are almost three times the amount that is acceptable for the Paris climate targets.
