Together with more than 200 children and young people, Greenpeace and Students for Future last week in Oberdorla, near the geographical center of Germany, let a 4 x 4 meter banner with a dove of peace fly into the sky on a hot air balloon. Printed on it are photos of peace signs made from handprints made by students at 55 schools.
The "Act for Peace" campaign is intended to send a sign of hope and solidarity with young people who are suffering from the war in Ukraine or who have had to flee their homeland.
The balloon started with the pigeon from the schoolyard of the Vogtei primary school. Then the school children, together with young people from Greenpeace groups, got together for a big peace sign.
The action is part of Greenpeace's peace campaign, which also offers children and young people an opportunity to take action against the war. Among other things, Greenpeace also organized online school lessons together with Students for Future: During these “Lessons for Peace”, experts answered questions from the students about war. And the interest was great: over 1000 students took part in the digital lessons. The great need of the young people to become active themselves became clear.
