Germany is NEVER allowed to participate in a nuclear war. Greenpeace activists protested today at Büchel against the atomic bombs stationed there.
At first glance, the Japanese city of Hiroshima and the tranquil town of Büchel have nothing in common. But if you take a closer look, you will see a connecting element that makes all contemplation disappear: US atomic bombs. Tomorrow 75 years ago - on August 6, 1945 - the world's first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. The second atomic bomb hit Nagasaki on October 9th. The bombing killed more than 200.000 people and should go down in the history books as one of the most striking atrocities that must never be repeated. What many do not know: There are still allegedly 20 US atomic bombs in Büchel. These are to be flown to the destination by German pilots as part of the expanded nuclear participation - a grievance that Greenpeace activists do not want to accept. Today they are protesting at the Büchel Air Base for the withdrawal of all US atomic bombs from Germany. "Abolish nuclear weapons - ban nuclear weapons!" They demand on a banner on a hot air balloon. This is located in front of the site on which, according to disarmament experts, US nuclear bombers are stored. A banner under the balloon reads: “Hiroshima - never again!”.
