A journey through time into the unknown

A journey through time into the unknown

I step out of my time capsule into the open air. It's hot, the air is humid and a pungent smell rises in my nose. My t-shirt sticks to my body and I'm drenched in sweat. I can hardly move because of the shock and try to orientate myself. A look at my digital watch tells me that I am in the year 3124. My head aches from the heat and I take a sip of water. I have a mission. To experience and document how much life on earth has developed. I carefully move forward a few steps and look over the dome of the hill on which I landed. What I see there takes my breath away. A world I couldn't even have imagined in my worst nightmares. The sky is no longer blue, but gray and cloudy from the clouds of steam that rise in the air from everywhere. Not a single green area can be seen anymore. I only see one thing, and that is factories that stretch over an enormous area. My knees start shaking and I suddenly find it difficult to breathe. I instinctively reach into my backpack and pull out a breathing mask, put it on, double-check the contents of my backpack and then set off. I walk down the hill I landed on and when I turn around again I see what the hill I landed on actually is. It's a huge mountain of rubbish: plastic packaging, food waste and beverage cans as far as the eye can see. All of a sudden I hear a deafening beep and when I turn around I see a huge truck behind me. He comes at me at breakneck speed. There is no way out. There are barbed wire fences around me that are live. So I can't escape to the left or to the right, so in panic I run up the hill of trash again. Since I can't go back down to the huge truck, I decide to go down on the other side of the hill. I slowly move past gray, dreary skyscrapers and factories. Amazed that I haven't met a soul yet, I stop and look into one of the windows. As I can tell from the sign next to me, it is a food company. The shock is written on my face. I expected an assembly line, machines, and a hectic factory environment. Instead, I look into a gloomy, somewhat scary-looking hall and everywhere are teeming with robots. There are about a thousand. You fly, drive or run from A to B at tremendous speed, hastily typing something into floating screens. Suddenly I hear a strange noise behind me. When I turn around, I see a very overweight elderly man who is moving around in a kind of flying bed. The people of the future are over-eaten and lazy. They only feed on chemically produced finished products. People eat unhealthily, eat cheap meat from factory farming and do without vegetables and fruit. You have nothing to do, the person is insignificant and yet he is responsible for all of this. Every glacier and the polar caps have melted. The oceans and lakes resemble a garbage dump and the last spark of life has died out. Forests have been cleared to build countless factories. All kinds of animals are extinct. Chased and killed by humans. The earth's resources are finally used up.

The world you and I - we all - know from our childhood is dying. The forests are becoming more and more silent, species are becoming extinct. Almost 30 million hectares of forest are destroyed every year, and only to promote paper production or to create free areas for agriculture and cattle pastures. In the mountains and seas, too, nature is being pushed to the brink step by step.

It is important to drastically reduce the amount of garbage we produce every day. When shopping, one should be careful to avoid products wrapped in plastic. Regional and seasonal shopping are also important factors that we should consider when shopping. We consume a lot more than we really need. We have everything from food to personal care products to clothing in abundance. This luxury tempts you to buy more than you need. Food is handled irresponsibly and huge amounts of food are thrown away every day. The seas are polluted, forests are cut down and the habitats of many animals are destroyed. Hundreds of animals are killed every day. Species are dying out. The good news: there is still hope. We can still save nature. We are all in the same boat and when nature dies, humans no longer have a future either. Let's all help together to save our earth. Support nature conservation organizations, consume conscientiously, try to avoid plastic as much as possible. Reuses products. Buy in bulk and organic shops and cover shorter distances by bike instead of by car. Even if life on earth has not yet progressed as far as it is in time travel to the year 3124, we should now start to save nature and its species. And as the saying goes:

THE FUTURE IS NOW
