Even before the date of the registration week is certain, the climate petition has received over 100.000 signatures. Some of the demands have already been included in the government program. No referendum before was so quickly anchored at the political level.
Implementation counts now. The demands have been specified and converted into precise mandates for parliament. “We do not make a referendum for the sake of a referendum, but rather to bring about change. The fossil dependency that is costing us our nature and our health must finally be ended, ”says Katharina Rogenhofer, spokeswoman for the popular initiative for climate change.
Together for the climate
The hurdle for the parliament has already been overcome before the registration week. This is mainly thanks to the more than 700 people who all work voluntarily for the climate. Young people get involved, concerned parents who distribute flyers in addition to 40-hour jobs in the evening and grandparents in their pension devote their free time to the climate and fight together for a future worth living in.
Those who have not yet signed can still do so in the registration week. The population has made the mandate to politicians clear. It is up to her whether she complies with people's demands or continues to fuel the climate crisis by doing nothing and cosmetic measures.
