5 tips for sensitive skin

Sensitive skin is by no means a marginal phenomenon. Experts estimate that around 40 to 50 percent of the population are affected. Here are 5 tips for sensitive skin.

Although there is no precise medical definition for sensitive skin, those who suffer from them know its symptoms: it itches and scratches, is cracked or brittle and tends to pustules and redness. Incidentally, studies show that all skin types, whether dry, oily or combination skin, can be sensitive. In addition, according to experts, women and men are equally affected by sensitive skin.

You can't go wrong with these five tips for sensitive skin:

  1. Tip for sensitive skin: Go on a search for clues
What our skin is sensitive to and to what extent varies from case to case. In order to be able to protect and care for your skin as best as possible, it is best to find the trigger for your skin problems first. Make a careful note of when and under what circumstances your skin is sensitive. Many of those affected cannot tolerate chemical cleaning agents or cleaning agents or get a rash from the cold, heat or exposure to the sun. Certain care products, dirty air, stress or an unbalanced diet can also throw the "sensitive" off balance.
  2. Tip for sensitive skin: To give somebody the cold shoulder
When you have found out which stimuli your skin is particularly sensitive to, you can confidently give these triggers the cold shoulder. Avoid direct sun if it causes pustules. Eat fewer convenience foods if fast food makes your skin blush or change shower gel if your skin becomes tight after the morning routine.
  3. Tip for sensitive skin: Conscious consumption is gentle on the skin
Basically, you will do your skin good if you consume consciously and carefully choose certain products - especially cosmetics and care products that you use every day. A rule of thumb says: the shorter the INCI list (List of ingredients) the better. We conditionally agree to this rule. Or would you cleanse your face with pure alcohol? Anyone struggling with sensitive skin is well advised to take a closer look at the ingredients of the products. Natural cosmetic products are often the better choice because they do not contain any chemical substances.
  4. Tip for sensitive skin: Do not exaggerate
The skin cannot absorb and store moisture if it is overwhelmed. Long, hot baths are a no-go. Because if you expose your skin to hot water too often, you destroy its natural protective shield. The following applies to cosmetic products: less is more. So treat your sensitive skin to a day off from make-up.
  5. Tip for sensitive skin: Live balanced
A balanced life with a healthy diet, sufficient restful sleep and enough exercise is also the best prerequisite for your skin. However, if you still suffer from your sensitive skin, do not hesitate to consult a doctor you trust.
