We have to protect people from the consequences of heavy rain and floods. There is a lot that we can do better. In the long term, we have to limit the consequences of the climate crisis. Because not only in Germany, all over the world, extreme weather threatens people.
If we do not act, extreme weather conditions will become more frequent and more severe as temperatures rise. Because: A warmer atmosphere can absorb more water through evaporation. The consequences are heavier and more frequent rainfall. At the same time, the jet stream loses its power because the Arctic and the air above it warm up. So low pressure areas stay longer over a region.
