2040: Too late, climate change can no longer be stopped.

The people of the year 2040 blame themselves for not exerting more pressure on politics in the XNUMXs.

It's the year 2040. The effects of climate change have increased significantly. Every year, there are heavy rain events in various regions of the world with catastrophic consequences and the increasing droughts are severely endangering crop yields. Food prices are exploding.

By now, the vast majority of humanity has accepted that man-made global warming is the cause. The desperation is great! A climate emergency has been declared in many countries around the world. Alternative energy systems are being built at a rapid pace, energy efficiency is being increased, traffic is being greatly reduced and factory farming is being abolished in order to reduce methane, which is particularly harmful to the climate. The ecosystems are being renatured and agriculture is being converted. Greenhouse gas emissions are actually falling now, but scientists say the race is already lost. Dangerous climate tipping points will soon be exceeded.

In the early 2020's there was still a window in which these negative developments could have been reversed. But that time window wasn't very big. Decisive action would have been necessary from XNUMX onwards. The technology and very concrete ideas were there, as was the knowledge of a limited period of time. A lot has been done and a lot has developed in the right direction, but in the end it was not enough to prevent the worst.

Many people are now blaming themselves for not exerting more pressure on politicians in the 2020s. They find it incredible that as of XNUMX there hasn't been a massive global outcry. At that time, the climate crisis was collectively suppressed. And the fossil energy industry has done everything, absolutely everything, to avoid losing its multi-billion dollar business. People wonder about this, because the influential managers of the fossil industry also have children.

If the people of 2040 could turn back time, they would put massive pressure on the politicians of the 20s.

But it's too late for that!
